Content: | This item is a Japanese-language propaganda leaflet produced by the Far Eastern Liaison Office. An English translation of the text is attached. The message reports the imminent conclusion of the campaign in the Philippines, the fall of Iwojima and the landing on Okinawa by the Allied Forces. It stresses that the war is approaching the Japanese mainland and that there is no possibility that the Japanese troops outside Japan will receive adequate reinforcements and supplies. The message urges the Japanese officers to consider surrendering rather than having their men die uselessly. It refers to the case of the German commanders who surrender to save millions of lives. It also mentions Lieutenant General TATEKAWA who became a prisoner of war during the Russo-Japanese War but later became an ambassador to Russia. |
