Content: This is an Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS) interrogation report for 1st Class Private JA147458 of the 6th Navigation Aid Unit, Shin 11801, who was captured at Humboldt Bay (near Hollandia) on 22 April 1944. JA147458, a 22 year old 1st Class Private from Gunma Prefecture, surrendered to US troops after most of the unit he belonged to was wiped out by naval gunfire and aerial bombardment. During the interrogation, he provided information on his army experience, living conditions in Japan, attitude towards the war, attitude towards other races, treatment of natives, sightings and treatment of Allied prisoners of war, rumours about the war campaign and access to news about the war. JA147458 said that he thought Japan could not compete with Allied industrial power and superior weaponry.
