Content: This item is a journal from the period between May 1942 and January 1944, recording orders issued to an independent wireless platoon in the 18th Army. It contains dated orders and reports concerning unit organisations and movements, deaths and illnesses, the transfer of staff between units, and promotions of non-commissioned officers. It specifically mentions the self-sufficiency drive on Rabaul, and a separate note inserted in the diary and signed by a Major MATSUMOTO warns of a surprise enemy attack on Rabaul. The back of the diary contains orders concerning troop organisation and movement in the Alexishafen region of Papua New Guinea, as well as noting the receipt of messages from the Third Communications Reserve Unit at Palau. This item was captured at Nagada in May 1944.
