| Content: | This is an Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS) interrogation report for JA148084, a Superior Private with the 49th Independent Sea Duty Company, who became separated from his unit while suffering from malaria and was captured by US troops at Lake Sentani on 30 May 1944. During the interrogation, JA148084 provided information on the history and organisation of the 49th Independent Sea Duty Company, Army discipline, relations between the Army and the Navy, his attitude towards capture and that he wanted to commit suicide, Allied propaganda leaflets (including description of a particular leaflet showing damage to Rabaul harbour and soldiers stacking ammunition), and Allied air attacks on Wewak between January and March 1944. JA148084 was impressed by the kind treatment he had received from his captors. The appendix contains an organisational chart for the 49th Independent Sea Duty Company. |
