Content: This is an Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS) interrogation report for Superior Private JA147457 of the 6th Navigation Aid Unit, Shin 11701, who was captured in Humbolt Bay (near Hollandia) on 22 April 1944. JA147457, a 23 year old Superior Private from Atetsu, Wakayama Prefecture, surrendered to US troops after 16 members of his party were killed during landings near Hollandia. During the interrogation, JA147457 provided information on troop distribution within naval convoys, training and function of the Navigation Aid Unit, the location of Japanese defences and other facilitates at Wewak, Cape Pus, Muschu Island, Palau, Koror Island, Arakabesan Island, Babelthuap Island and Malakaul Island, and facilities information on naval production factories in Kure, Hiroshima Prefecture.
