Content: This is an Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS) translation of a Japanese publication captured at Cape Gloucester on 12 March 1944 during the Allied campaign to capture New Britain. This item is a booklet entitled "Use of explosives in jungle warfare" compiled by 18th Army Staff Section dated August 1943. It contains information and instructions on the special characteristics of the war in New Guinea, the use of explosives in different terrains, the tactics and characteristics of American and Australian forces and their use of explosives, the use of land mines as booby traps, Japanese tactics and the psychological effects of explosives.
