Content: | This is an Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS) interrogation report for Lance Corporal SHIRAISHI Saburô of the 18th Army Headquarters Azuma Unit 1st Company 2nd Section who was captured on Goodenough Island on 11 March 1943. SHIRAISHI, a 23 year old Lance Corporal from Saitama, drifted to Goodenough Island and was captured by Australian troops after Teiyô Maru was sunk. SHIRAISHI was a truck driver in the transport unit and his ship was sunk on the way to Lae. During the interrogation, SHIRAISHI provided information on the unit organisation and the situation in Japan. |
