Content: | This is an Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS) interrogation report for 1st Class Private JA147271 of 141st Infantry Regiment, 2nd Battalion Headquarters, who was captured near Talasea on 25 March 1944. JA147271, a 23 year old 1st Class Private from Hiroshima, was sleeping in a hut when he was captured by US Marines. During the interrogation, JA147271 provided information on the location, treatment and condition of Allied prisoners of war in Innoshima Island (Hiroshima Prefecture), Rabaul and Tanoura (north-west of Rabaul). He also provided information on air raids on Rabaul and Garove Island between September and December 1943, the ineffective anti-aircraft fire and the absence of aerial opposition, and the negative impact on Japanese morale. |
