Content: | This is an Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS) translation of a Japanese publication captured at Lae on 27 September 1943. It contains a daily record of investigation of Chinese, New Guinean prisoners (including local people under surveillance) and Australian prisoners of war in the Lae area between 8 March 1942 and 14 May 1942. This document provides information on living conditions, treatment of prisoners, relations with Japanese soldiers, movement and attack made by Australian forces. The item also contains a record of the arrest and interrogation of five New Guineans captured near Lae on 24 April 1942. Four were subsequently killed and another handed over to a Medical Air Unit for medical experiments. This item also contains brief personal histories of 25 Chinese living in Lae. |
