Content: | This is an Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS) translation of a Japanese publication captured at Ibdi (on Biak Island) on 13 June 1944 during the Allied attacks on Japanese positions in northern Dutch New Guinea, which were intended to isolate the 18th Army at Wewak. This item is a notebook containing information and sketches on chemical warfare materiel, dated 13 February 1943 to 15 April 1944 and stamped HIRASE, Katsutoshi. It contains general observations about the nature of gas warfare, duties of an officer in charge of defence against gas attack, physical properties of various gases, first aid, protective clothing, training methods, and chemical warfare organisation in the Soviet Army Armoured Group. It also contains miscellaneous notes on shipping operations, Allied use of radio communications, landing operations and anti-submarine and anti-aircraft measures. |
