Content: | This is an Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS) interrogation report for Superior Private RENGA Takeo of Ohara Unit 3rd Company 2nd Platoon 3rd Section. He mentioned a unit number, 3616, but it was not possible to identify it. Renga was captured in the Trobriand Islands on 16 March 1943 after the sinking of his boat in Dampier Strait. RENGA, a 30 year old Superior Private from Aichi, was captured by Australian troops with his companions when they reached an island populated by locals. During the interrogation, RENGA provided information on the unit organisation, functions of each section such as observation and transport sections, attitudes towards being captured, defences in Rabaul, and conditions in Japan. The report includes several diagrams of machine parts RENGA drew. |
