| Content: | This item is a chart for the year 1941, evaluating the performance of the members of the 238th Infantry Regiment Infantry Gun Detachment in a series of military operations conducted in Southwest Shanxi Province, China, between February and March. During this period, the unit was engaged in "the annihilation of the 15th Army;" presumably a reference to resisting Chinese Nationalist forces, as well as conducting ongoing surveillance operations in the Yangcheng district. The chart ranks each soldier within his group (e.g., 5th out of 20 members) for each separate operation. At the bottom of the chart, an overall service ranking is given against each name along with a point score that reflects the soldier's general performance and the total number of months served so far on campaign. There is a note on this chart explaining that unit members with blank spaces against their names did not take part in the battle against the 15th Army. This item was captured at Finschhafen in April 1944. |
