Content: | This is an Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS) translation of a Japanese publication captured at Aitape on 18 May 1944 during the Allied attacks on Japanese positions in northern New Guinea and Dutch New Guinea, which were intended to isolate the 18th Army at Wewak. The full title of this item is "Types of Japanese bombs, flares and fuzes in use in December 1943; methods of determining types of Allied bombs used from craters made". Issued on 16 November 1943, this document provides data on the construction and function of a variety of flares used by Japanese forces, notes on the Type 99 30 kg bomb and a bomb penetration prevention device. It also includes sketches and notes for determining the type of bombs used in enemy raids and a list of bombs, fuses and flares in use and likely to be issued in the near future. |
