Content: | This is an Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS) interrogation report for 1st Class Private FUJIWARA Akio of the 6th South Seas Expedition Force, who was captured in the Buna area on 9 March 1943. FUJIWARA, a 22 year old 1st Class Private from Nagasaki, was captured, along with two other Japanese soldiers, by Australian troops in the village where they landed after the sinking of Aiyo Maru on 3 March. During the interrogation, FUJIWARA initially gave a false identity as he was worried that his name would be sent to Japan as a prisoner of war. However, he later gave correct identity and provided information on unit organisations, evacuation operation from Guadalcanal, the sinking of his boat and his rescue from the sea. |
