Content: This is an Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS) research report on the location of the Japanese 16th Army in the Netherlands East Indies. The enquiry was received on 28 June 1943 and an answer despatched on 28 June 1943. The report states that the 16th Army and the 48th Division successfully carried out unloading operations under Allied counter-attacks during the operations to occupy Java in March 1942. (The Japanese invasion force landed at three places in Java on the night of 28 February 1942). According to ATIS sources, the 9th Division had been in Central Java since mid-1942.
