Content: | This item is a Japanese-language propaganda leaflet produced by the Far Eastern Liaison Office during the Second World War. An English translation of the text is attached. It includes two copies of the leaflet. The message urges the recipient to surrender immediately to join their 7,000 comrades in Australia rather than to die a useless death. The leaflet includes pictures depicting the daily life of Japanese prisoners of war in Australia. The leaflet introduces a summary of the general rules at a Japanese prisoner-of-war camp in Australia. The message stresses that thousands of Japanese prisoners of war from New Guinea are confident that their decisions are correct and are making every effort to train their mind and body for the future. 300,000 of them were printed. 253,000 of these leaflets were dispatched to Lae on 27 April 1945 on 27 April and 15 May 1945, 150,000 to Morotai on 30 April 1945 and 12 May 1945, and 140,000 to Torokina on 28 May 1945. |
