Content: | This is an Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS) interrogation report for 3rd Class Engine-room Hand HIKIUKA Shomi of Yayoi, who was captured on Normanby Island on 23 September 1942. HIKIUKA, a 20 year old Navy volunteer from Nagasaki, was one of a group of seven Japanese Prisoners of war captured at that time. In the related Consolidated Report no. 1, his name was spelled HIKIURA. It is probable that HIKIURA was the correct name. He was posted to Yayoi in August 1942 and went to Rabaul. From Rabaul, Yayoi was sent to Rabi in Milne Bay twice to transport provisions, but was sunk on 11 September. As HIKIUKA was young and relatively new to the service, he did not provide any substantial information at the interrogation session. |
