Content: | This is an Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS) translation of a Japanese publication captured at Hollandia on 24 May 1944 during the Allied attacks on Japanese positions in northern Dutch New Guinea, which were intended to isolate the 18th Army at Wewak. This item is an extract from a booklet (title unknown) on the events prior to the fall of Corregidor between 3 and 6 May 1942. It contains an outline of American action on 5 and 6 May prior to the surrender, an outline of the condition of artillery batteries and the organisation of American and Filipino defence units, and three sketches showing the location of batteries, searchlights, shelters and number of guns at Fort Caballo, Carabao Island and Fraile Island. Information contained in this report was based on interrogation reports and aerial observations. |
