Content: | This is an Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS) combined report on economic information gained from 11 Japanese prisoners of war. The report contains a range of information on Japanese industry including: the Kawanami shipyards (on Koyagi Island, off Saga Prefecture), the Asahi Metal Industry at Kamata near Tokyo, the Mitsubishi Experimental Chemical Works and artificial wool production, the Kôbe Steel Works, the Zaiso Lumber Company, merchant marine unions, banking and Japanese commercial interests in New Guinea. The appendix contains sketch maps of the Kawanami Shipyards on Koyagi Island, Tamashima (Okayama Prefecture) and the Zaiso Lumber Company in Nagoya. |

Notes: | Date and place of capture not recorded, but presumably most of the prisoners interrogated for this report were captured in the New Guinea area between February and May 1944. |
