| Content: | This is an Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS) translation of a Japanese publication captured at Lorengau on 26 March 1944 during the campaign to capture the Admiralty Islands. This item is a booklet entitled "Weekly report, no. 366", published by the Department of Information on 20 October 1943. It contains information written by the Air Defence Bureau of the Home Affairs Department on a range of subjects relating to anti-aircraft defences, including: general introduction to the air defence of factories, differences between household and factory air defence, plans for emergency repairs, equipment, camouflage, bomb-proof shelters, light control, reporting and warnings, dispersal of air-raid shelters, fire prevention, fire fighting, first aid and anti-gas measures, protection of vital documents, training, and regulations and laws. This document was produced in the light of the bombing attacks undertaken since the Doolittle raids of 18 April 1942. Japanese commanders knew that the Allies had the capacity to strike the mainland and took measures to train the populace and minimise damage. |
