| Content: | This is an Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS) research report issued on 26 January 1945 on the Japanese Medical Corps and infringements of the laws of war. It contains evidence that Japanese Medical Officers were armed with pistols and swords, participated in combat, killed patients in order to prevent them falling in to enemy hands, beheaded prisoners of war and performed vivisection on prisoners of war. The report also contains evidence of Japan's failure to observe international agreements regarding the marking of hospitals and hospital ships, the abuse of hospital ships and air ambulances in transporting non-medical personnel and cargo, and accusations of Allied attacks on unmarked and marked hospitals in forward areas. |
