Content: | This is an Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS) research report issued on 24 July 1944 on Japanese bacterial warfare. The report contains information on Japanese pamphlets on bacterial warfare, counter-espionage and bacterial warfare, allegations of poisoning by Chinese forces, accusations of Allied use of biological agents, Japanese research on dengue fever, supplies and bacterial infection, evidence of Japanese plans to use a "bacillus bomb" (a bacteria spreading bomb), and accusations that Allied propaganda leaflets were impregnated with bacteria. The report concluded that the Japanese had long given thought to bacterial warfare and have claimed that all countries are carrying out research into the use of biological agents. It suggested that the "Japanese would use this type of warfare as a surprise weapon without the slightest hesitation" and that Allied forces also needed to take precautions over food products captured from the Japanese. |
