| Content: | This is an Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS) interrogation report for Superior Private ÔMIYA Mikio of the 51st Division Signals Unit 1st Platoon, who was captured in the Bismarck Sea off New Guinea on 9 March 1943 after the sinking of Teiyo Maru on 3 March. ÔMIYA Mikio, a 24 year old Superior Private from Nagano, was drifting on a raft with three companions, feeling weak from lack of food, when he was captured by a US Navy patrol boat. ÔMIYA was a linesman in the signals unit. During the interrogation, ÔMIYA provided information on unit organisation, signals equipment, morale in Japan and medical services in the military. |
