Content: | This is an Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS) interrogation report for JA147835 of the 51st Division, 102nd Infantry Regiment, Regimental Signals Company, who was captured at Depapre (50 kms west of Hollandia) on 9 May 1944. JA147835, a 23 year old Superior Private from Tokyo, along with hospital patient, was ordered to evacuate Hollandia and proceed to Tanahmerah Bay. Owing to a lack of food and weakness, groups of patients fell behind. JA147835 and a companion joined a Japanese civilian employee and were later captured by natives while heading towards the coast and were then handed over to US troops. During the interrogation, JA147835 provided information on shipping losses, conscription and training, the sinking of AP Denmark Maru on 16 January 1944, the sinking of AP No. 3 Daigen Maru, and an Allied air raid on Hollandia on 21 April 1944. The appendix contains an organisational chart for the 57th Infantry Regimental Signals Company and a sketch showing the barracks of Tokyo E Forces. |
