Content: | This is an Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS) interrogation report for JA145715 of the 238th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Battalion, Gun Platoon, who was captured at Melanpipi, near Kiari, New Guinea on 14 February 1944. JA145715, a 24 year old 1st Class Private (runner) rank from Gunma Prefecture, was asleep in a native hut suffering from malaria when he was captured by natives and Australian troops. During the interrogation, JA145715 provided information on his service experience, his desire to be shot on capture because he could not return to Japan and that he would be executed if forced to return, his attitude towards the war in general and that when he was in Salamaua he heard rumours that General YAMASHITA of the 14th Area Army had landed in Australia. |
