This item is the field diary of the 2nd Battalion, 238th Infantry Regiment between 17 October and 19 November 1943. It contains the routine and operational orders from the time the battalion was in Namariwa to engagements at Katika and Bonga, near the Song River, including instructions from the commanding general, charts showing the position of Allied forces, embarkation schedules, communications, bombardment and battle reports.

This item was captured during a rear-guard assault by the Japanese during their retreat from the Huon Peninsula through Lakona.
