Content: | This is an Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS) interrogation report for Boatswain (Merchant Marine) JA147478 of Kaishu Maru, who was captured in Inrim Plantation (on Manus Island) on 25 April 1944. JA147478, a 34 year old Boatswain (Merchant Marine) from Kôchi Prefecture, was captured by US troops after his vessel, Kaishu Maru, was sunk by Allied aircraft off Manus Island. He was suffering from malaria and hunger. During the interrogation, JA147478 provided information on the specifications for various Japanese vessels, rations carried by Kaishu Maru and naval operations around Manus Island between 17 and 19 January 1944. |
