Content: | This is an Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS) interrogation report for Corporal YABUGUCHI Yoshizuki of the 170th Infantry Regiment 3rd Battalion 10th Company 3rd Platoon 1st Section, who was captured in Buna on 16 December 1942, only thirteen days after landing in New Gunea. YABUGUCHI, a 31 year old Corporal from Kobe, was suffering from malaria when he was captured by Australian troops. He was a university graduate and spoke a few words of English. During the interrogation, YABUGUCHI provided information on unit movement, equipment and weapons, military hierarchy, conscription, and other aspects of military systems including wages. He also elaborated his views on social situations in Japan, on Chinese attitudes towards Japan, and on being a prisoner of war. |
