Content: | This item is an Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS) translation of a Japanese publication captured at Soputa on 15 November 1942 during the Japanese withdrawal from the Papuan campaigns. The full title of this document is "Notes on composition of Takasago tribe: matters relating to their induction into Takasago Volunteer Unit and other information in diary form". The items contains information on lectures and induction given to Formosan auxillary soldiers, known as the Takasago Volunteer Unit, prior to embarking for service in the Pacific theatre. It also contains a translation of a diary from a member of the Unit who took part in operations in the Bismark Achipelago, including the attack on Lae in August 1942.
