| Content: | This is an Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS) interrogation report for merchant seaman KIYO Eiki of Taimei Maru, who was captured near the Trobriand Islands on 9 March 1943 while he and 17 others were asleep in a village. KIYO, a 29 year old merchant seaman from Korea, worked on the ship which transported equipment and goods between Rabaul and Wewak. During the interrogation, KIYO provided information on his vessel's movements, identifications of vessels, a new type of aircraft, equipment on board the boat, defence in Rabaul, morale in Japan and Korea, and topography in Japan, Korea and the Pacific. He also provided detailed information on port facilities and the impact of the Doolittle raid. The report also includes several diagrams of ports and their facilities in Korea and the Pacific. |
