Content: This is an Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS) interrogation report for JA148135 of the 42nd Independent Motor Transport Battalion, who was captured in the Sarmi area on 4 June 1944. JA148135, a 32 year old Superior Private from Chiba Prefecture, along with seven others, became separated from their retreating unit. While attempting to cross a large river in the Sarmi area on a raft the party was swept out to sea. After four days at sea the prisoner was picked up by an Allied patrol boat. During the interrogation, JA148135 provided information on the organisation of the 42nd Independent Motor Transport Battalion, ship markings, defences and garrisoned forces on Palau Island, and the damage caused by Allied air raids on Hollandia in April 1944. The appendix contains an organisational chart for the 42nd Independent Motor Transport Battalion.
