Content: | This is an Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS) interrogation report for JA147452 of the Go 5203, Independent Wireless/transmitter Platoon, who was captured on Pak Island (Admiralty Islands) on 11 April 1944. JA147452, a 23 year old 1st Class Private from Iwate Prefecture, fled Rambutyo Island for Pak Island with two companions after US landings on 4 April 1944. Unarmed, they surrendered to US troops while endeavouring to contact Japanese forces. During the interrogation, JA147452 provided information on Japanese morale, the Japanese conscription system between June and August 1943, the location of Allied prisoners of war at Palau, Rabaul and Zentsûji, movements of Tonegawa Maru, land fortifications on Palau, and economic conditions in Japan, particularly the construction of railways, tunnels and breakwaters. |
