Content: This is an Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS) translation of a Japanese publication captured at Salamaua during the Japanese retreat from campaigns in the Owen Stanley Ranges. This item is an intelligence report from Moto 2802 Force, 66th Infantry Regiment 51st Division on operations between 9 and 23 December 1942. This item contains information about combat operations and enemy dispositions during the build-up for the United States attack on Japanese positions in the Solomon Islands. It also contains a report on operations in Buna, Giruwa, New Britain, and central and eastern New Guinea. The item contains a report on relations with the native peoples of New Britain and makes observations about language, ideas of morality, land, food and domesticated animals. A brief report on the features and specifications of the B-17 Flying Fortress, as told by an American prisoner, is also contained in this item.
