Content: This is an Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS) interrogation report for JA147993 of the 27th Field Motor Transport Depot Unit, who was captured near Demta (50 kms west of Hollandia) on 19 May 1944. JA147993, a 37 year old 1st Class Private (Medical Orderly) from Wakayama Prefecture, was exhausted from lack of food and became separated from his unit and walked into a native village where he was captured by US troops. During the interrogation, JA147993 provided information on morale in Japan and difficulties in feeding his family, organisation of the 4641 Sea and Land Duty Regiment, malaria treatments, skin diseases, diseases prevalent in Manchuria and Palau, criticism from non-combatant troops or officers for not withdrawing or anticipating Allied landings at Kotaradja (Lombok), location of supply dumps in Keinei (Manchuria), casualties suffered during air raids on Hollandia in April 1944, and the location of Indian prisoners of war at Wewak. The appendix includes organisational charts for the 27th Field Motor Transport Depot Unit and the 4641 Sea and Land Duty Regiment.
