Content: | This is an Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS) interrogation report for selected prisoners of war who left Japan between June 1943 and January 1944. This combined report outlines the economic situation in Japan, including details of food, clothing, wages, transport, imports, metals and the shipbuilding industry. The report mentions shortages in many commodities, as well as a thriving black market. Further, although the prisoners thought ships were being built fast enough to cover present losses, shortages had resulted in poorer quality workmanship and delays. The capture details for each prisoner are not recorded. |
