| Content: | This item consists of troop disposition and command structure charts for the "FS" campaign of the Imperial Japanese forces in the South East Area during the Pacific War. These records were compiled in the immediate post-war period by the Demobilisation Ministry at the request of the Japanese government and the occupation forces. Although they were written soon after the events they describe, they were often reliant on recollections and interviews with veterans rather than primary military documentation. The "FS" campaign was established in May 1942 and aimed to occupy New Caledonia, Fiji and Samoa, to enforce a blockade between Australia and the US and to provide a base for counterattacks in the region. It was postponed after the Japanese navy's losses at Midway in July of that year. |
