Content: | This is an Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS) translation of a Japanese publication captured at Mokmer on 21 June 1944 during the Allied attacks on Japanese positions in northern Dutch New Guinea, which were intended to isolate the 18th Army at Wewak. This item is a pamphlet entitled "Activities of Division engineers in attacking special type positions, part 3", issued in August 1943 by the Army Engineer School. It contains information on the organisation and disposition of special assault groups and the weapons and equipment required for attacking fortifications (with and without underground installations). Also described are various types of pillboxes and the effectiveness of explosives, flames and gases against them. The item has diagrams and sketches on the construction of pillboxes, including Russian fortifications. |
