|The Australia–Japan Research Project is pleased to present its second publication, Blankets on the wire: the Cowra breakout and its aftermath. This book traces the unique relationship that has developed between the rural town of Cowra and Japan, from the night of the breakout on 5 August 1944 down to the present. |
Blankets on the wire was jointly launched in Cowra on the 62nd anniversary of the breakout, 5 August 2006, by the Minister–Councillor from the Embassy of Japan, Kazuho Kawamata, and the Principal Historian of the Australian War Memorial, Peter Stanley.
Blankets on the wire is available for sale to the general public for a recommended retail price of $12.95. It can be purchased from the bookshop of the Australian War Memorial in Canberra, from the Japanese Garden and Cultural Centre in Cowra, and from the Cowra Visitor's Centre. It is also available from the online shop of the Australian War Memorial.
The AJRP is also providing an online version of the book, complete with detailed footnotes for the text, available from the links below.
