Content: | This is an Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS) research report on the strength and disposition of Japanese forces in New Guinea, war casualties and Japanese Army and Navy post office numbers. The enquiry was received on 10 June 1944 and an answer despatched on 20 June 1944. The report contains information on a range of subjects, including: the reinforcement capabilities and shipping problems in June 1943, the present strength of the Japanese Army in March 1944 from Hollandia to Madang (estimated at 66,318), the disposition and composition of Armies and Divisions, the ratio of divisional to non-divisional troops, a chart showing the proportion of disabled to those killed in action in various theatres up to June 1944, disputed translations and nomenclature of units, operational code names and numbers, and Army and Navy post office numbers. |
