| Content: | This is an Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS) interrogation report for Superior Private JA147019 of the 53rd Infantry Regiment 1st Company, who was captured at Mt Manbaku in New Britain near Tuluvu on 5 February 1944. He was suffering from malaria and could not keep up with his unit. He used to work in the Kawasaki Dockyard Industrial School in Kobe and trained in lathe work. He visited ships which were under construction as much as possible and observed the ships in detail. In this report, JA147019 provided information on unit organisation, movements, Battleship Yamato, servicemen's pay, insignia, and social conditions in Japan. Two maps of the Kawasaki Dockyard in Kobe were attached. |
