| Content: | This collection includes four items, a photocopied document of a battle record written by Surgeon Lieutenant YAMAMOTO Kiyoshi in Japanese; its English translation by Ray Cowan divided into two stapled documents; and a newspaper article from Melbourne Herald (23/2/1980) about Yamamoto' war service. This battle record was taken from a magazine to which Yamamoto, an emeritus professor of Gunma University that time contributed it some time prior to 1980. It is an abbreviated record in connection with the medical services during the last three mounts of the Allied offensive in Buna, and related telegraph messages sent and received are also included. The original record was presented by YAMAMOTO to the Medical Bureau of the Department of the Navy in 1943 after the battle. The record describes the confusion among Japanese soldiers during the fierce enemy attack and his duties to care wounded in the troubled period. |
