Content: | This is an Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS) interrogation report for 2nd Petty Officer HORITA Saburô of the 582nd Air Corps, who was captured on Russell Island on 31 January 1943. HORITA Saburô, a 22 year old 2nd Petty Officer from Toyama, was captured by local people after his aircraft was shot down and forced to land. His unit was based in Rabaul. He was attempting to escape by canoe when he was captured. Although HORITA was security conscious and guarded, during the interrogation he provided limited information on his Air Corps organisation, the aircraft he was operating (Type O Mark 1SSF), aircraft performance and equipment, and training, operation methods. |
