Content: | This is an Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS) interrogation report for Superior Private M162 of the 66th Infantry Regiment 3rd Battalion 11th Company 1st Platoon 2nd Section, who was captured in Lae on 15 September 1943. M162, a 32 year old Superior Private from Tochigi, was captured by Australian troops while he and a companion were sheltering from heavy rain in a damaged car. M162 was suffering from malaria, and they were trying to reach Madang on foot from Lae after being evacuated from Salamaua; they could not be transported to Finschhafen due to lack of military landing crafts. During the interrogation, M162 provided information on his unit organisation, and morale in Japan. He also provided detailed information on the Nakajima Aeroplane Factory where he had worked as a storeman. A plan of the factory in Ota is attached. |
