Content: This item is a 1942 Japanese reproduction of a map of Western Dutch New Guinea. It provides extremely detailed coverage of an area extending from the Boo-Eilanden Islands in the Seram Sea in the west, to Numfor Island in the east, and from the Asia Islands in the Pacific Ocean in the north, to Papisoi on the southernmost tip of what is now eastern Iriyan Jaya. All of the place names on this map are given in their Dutch variants, suggesting that this map was obtained from the then Dutch colonial administration of the territory. It was captured at Madang, probably in 1944.
