| Content: | This is an Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS) interrogation report for JA147462 of the 39th Independent Field Anti-aircraft Battalion, 3rd Battery, who was captured at Kalinga, New Britain, on 22 April 1944. JA147462, a 27 year old Leading Private (Phone Operator) from Aichi Prefecture, became separated from his unit during a retreat towards Talasea. He was asleep in a hut when he was captured by US troops. During the interrogation, JA147462 provided information on religion and spiritual education in Japan, hydro-electric power stations in Japan, civilian morale, living conditions in Japan, relations between the Army and the Navy, the organisation of the 39th Independent Field Anti-aircraft Battalion, responses to Allied leaflet propaganda, Japanese anti-aircraft artillery, land fortifications at Nagoya in November 1942, the location of Allied prisoners of war in Kôbe and movements of Sumatra Maru. |
