Content: | This is an Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS) interrogation report for 1st Class Private GISHI Shôichi of the 8th Shipping Engineer Regiment 2 Company, who was captured on Goodenough Island on 9 April 1943. GISHI, a 31 year old 1st Class Private from Osaka, drifted on a boat for 23 days without food after Kenbu Maru was sunk. He was handed to Australian and US troops by the locals who fed him for about ten days. He only weighed 90 pounds at the time of interrogation. During the interrogation, GISHI provided brief information on the unit organisation, and the situation in Japan |
