| Content: | This is an Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS) interrogation report for 1st Class Private YAMAMOTO Taro of the 144th Infantry Regiment 3rd Battalion who was captured at Ioribaiwa on 3 October 1942. YAMAMOTO, a 23 year old from Ehime, was a member of the South Seas Force and left Japan in November 1941. His unit completed successful landings in Guam and Rabaul. He landed in Buna in August 1942. He was captured at Ioribaiwa when he was feeling sick and suffering from diarrhoea. YAMAMOTO gave information on the unit organisation and its officers. He also provided information on ammunition, transport, morale, and medical treatment. Appendix A shows the rough organisational chart of the 144th Infantry Regiment. Appendix B deals with special equipment, such as mosquito nets, headgear and eye shields. |
