Content: | This is an Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS) interrogation report for Civilian Employee JA145599 of the 14th Pioneer Unit, who was captured 35 miles up the Busu River (in mountains some distance from Lae) on 20 September 1943. JA145599, a 26 year old Civilian Employee from Kagoshima, was captured by an Australian Signals Unit when he was left behind during the retreat. During the interrogation, JA145599 provided information on his unit's work on constructing roads and wharves. He was a barber in the unit. He also gave information on ranks among the civilian employees. He was quite talkative and expanded on narrative on being captured, war, and his attitude towards other races and atrocities. |
