Content: | This is an Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS) translation of a Japanese publication captured at Hollandia (Jayapura) on 2 May 1944 during the Allied attacks on Japanese positions in northern Dutch New Guinea, which were intended to isolate the 18th Army at Wewak. This item contains a file of intelligence records issued by 4th Air Army Headquarters, belonging to Shin 9304 Force (14th Air Repair Depot), dated 21 December 1943 to 10 March 1944. It contains a chart showing offensive operations for 6th Flying Division for the latter part of December 1943, a chart showing the positions of Allied warships and other vessels in eastern New Guinea from 1 December 1943 to 9 March 1944; a chart showing the number and type of Allied aircraft attacking eastern New Guinea from mid-December 1943 to 10 March 1944; estimates of the number of Allied aircraft in eastern New Guinea at the end of January 1944, on 15 February and 10 March 1944; charts showing operations of 4th Air Army from 1 February to 10 March 1944; and a chart showing the results of anti-aircraft action for the period 1 to 10 March 1944. This item also contains a description of attacks by the 59th Flying Regiment using aerial burst bombs, and instructions on how such attacks should be conducted. |
