Content: | This is an Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS) translation of a Japanese publication captured at Hollandia (Jayapura) on 3 June 1944 during the Allied attacks on Japanese positions in northern Dutch New Guinea, which were intended to isolate the 18th Army at Wewak. This item is an extract from a document entitled "Discipline of imperial troops", issued by the Watari Group Headquarters (14th Army) dated 10 February 1938 to 3 November 1942. It belonged to the Akatsuki 9740 Force. It contains regulations and orders on the conduct of Japanese soldiers in the Philippines, protests from the Filipinos against the Japanese occupation, an appendix citing instances of Japanese brutality against the Filipinos, and plans for a propaganda campaign. |
